As a part of a digital initiative of household appliances of Liebherr, an equipment manufacturing giant, it is set to join hands with the tech giant Microsoft to build a communication module. With this, the Liebherr refrigerators and freezers are to get connected to the internet.

This will make the future refrigerators super smart by enabling food management which will aid users in planning or shopping meals. This will make use of object recognition technology and internal cameras. Using these, the groceries in stock in the refrigerator will be monitored, says a recent Microsoft blog post. Groceries will be captured and individual food items will be recognized. This eliminates the need for manual checking of what is in the fridge. Microsoft will extend computer vision capabilities for this feature.

Users can make use of an exclusive mobile app on iOS, Android and Windows. To this, the list of groceries to be shopped will get added and the users can get access while shopping.

The present system is merely a prototype, but the learning technology is sure to mature in leaps and bounds. Both Microsoft and Liebherr are making betterments in their technology catering to the newest generation of refrigerators. Than just cooling and preserving food, this latest technology will help you with food management, concludes the Microsoft blog.
