Special market opened in Kooyambedu on the occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi festival

A special market has been opened in the Chennai wholesale vegetable market in Koyambedu on account of the festival of Vinayaka Chathurthi. 

A large crowd gathered and visited this market for purchasing the Pooja items.

It has been a regular practice to open special market every year for the festive occasions of Ayudha Poojai, Pongal, etc. In this special market, certain special pooja items which are nor generally available will also be available for sales. So, the special markets in Koyambedu during festival occasions have been hugely popular.

Last year, a special market was opened for the occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi for the first time in Koyambedu market. This was also very popular. So, the special market for this year’s Vinayaka Chathurthi was opened in Koyambedu.

More than 500 shops have been set up in this special market.As buyers thronged to buy the special pooja items, there was a heavy crowd yesterday evening. This caused a severe traffic jam in the area. The police had to control the vehicular traffic and the public.

Umbrellas – Rs. 10/-, Coconut – Rs. 20/-, Rye (kambu) sheafs  - Rs. 5/-, festive ribbons – Rs. 10/-, Plantain leaf – Rs. 5/-, ‘Dhrushti’ pumpkin – Rs. 50/-, Corn sheaf – Rs. 10/-, Arugampul – Rs. 50/-, mango leaf bunch – Rs. 10/-, basil leaf bunch – Rs. 10/-, Double plantain (young) plant – Rs. 50/-, Erukkamby garland – Rs. 20/-, Samanthi flowers a  measure – Rs. 10/-, Kadhambam – Rs. 25/-, Jasminse – Rs. 10/-, Kanakambaram – Rs. 25/-, Apple (kg) – Rs. 100/-, Sweet lime (kg) – Rs. 40/-, Wood Apple (Vilaampazham) kg – Rs. 50/-, Pear – Rs. 50/-, Banana bunch – Rs. 70/-, sugarcane bunch of 20 – Rs. 250/-, single sugarcane – Rs. 40/-, 1 measure puffed rice – Rs. 10/-, Naattu sarkkarai – Rs. 120 (kg), split grams, flat rice, nattu sarkkarai, puffed rice packet – Rs. 30/-.

The sales of the above items has been roaring.

Sugarcane prices: Sugarcanes are brought from Madurai.at the investment of Rs. 7 Lakhs. Last year, a bunch of 20 sugarcanes was sold at Rs. 100/-. This year, this is being sold at Rs. 250/-. Good business is expected,
