Now general public can receive and recommend Padma Awards

In the Indian honor system, the Padma awards are given out to those who excel in any specific industry and get recommended by influential persons. Now, the central government has decided to break this and start giving out these awards to normal people as well.
According to the revised method, even the public can place recommendations for the award. Those who make such recommendations online should provide their Aadhar number.
It is also stated that the award can be recommended to the general public as well. And the procedure to recommend will be simplified.
Sources from the centre also points that this new move is taken in order to make the process more transparent. In the year 2016, so far, more than 1700 recommendations are received. The last date for submit such recommendations is 15th September.
