The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has informed that the 2nd stage of counselling for admission to medical courses MBBS and BDS will commence on 21st September.
The 1st stage of counselling was conducted in the month of June at the Anna Salai Omandhurar Super Multi-Speciality Hospital.
For the students who got the admission letter during this 1st stage, classes began on 1st August.
At the end of the 1st stage counselling, 9 MBBS seats in government medical colleges and 122 MBBS seats in the private self-financed medical colleges, and 12 BDS seats in the Chennai Tamil Nadu Government Dental College, and 17 BDS seats in the private self-financed dental colleges remain to be filled.
In order to fill the remaining seats, the 2nd stage of counselling is set to be started on 21st September by the DME.
A brief on the information released by the Secretary of the Student Admission Council, Mr G. Selvarajan:
It had been decided to hold the 2nd stage of counselling for admission to MBBS and BDS courses from 21st September to 23rd September. If required, there will be an additional counselling day on 24th September.
On completion of the 1st stage of counselling, there were 20 government medical colleges, 2 ESI Medical colleges, 7 Private (self-financed) medical colleges, Chennai Tamil Nadu Government Dental College, and 12 Private (self-financed) dental colleges in the list.
Taking into account the number of seats that were unfilled after the completion of the 1st stage counselling and the inclusion of 4 private (self-financed) medical colleges who were recently approved are to be taken in the 2nd stage of counselling.
15 percent of the seats in the Government medical colleges are reserved as All India Quota. This reservation is filled by admission to the candidates on National merit and passed in the Entrance Examination.
The seats unfilled in this All India quota will be handed back on 20th September. These seats will also be filled up during the 2nd stage of counselling.
