Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announces the doubling the pension for the retired temple staff

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had announced the doubling the pension for the retired temple staff from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000.J Jayalalithaa while speaking said: Tamil Nadu temples have been the centre of all human life activities. Several people, including sculptors, sthapathis, construction workers, wooden carpenters, metal sculptors, handicrafts, building experts, weavers, priests, village temple priests, musicians, dancers, nagaswaram vidwans, pooja item sellters, flower vendors, folk artistes, painters and recital of religious discoursers, are serving the temples and the pilgrims. 

During the passage of time, these people did not get adequate support and have become indigent and their valued skills faced the threat of fading away. A scheme will be implemented to increase their livelihood resources and to improve their expertise, at an expenditure of Rs 5 crore, I have directed the officials to create a database on the immovable properties of the temples including invaluable idols made of metals and stone, lands, etc., Jayalalithaa said all these information would be computerised. Further, to help the devotees, Global Information System (GIS) based map would be made available and the assets of temples would be documented using Global Positioning System (GPS).
 
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa also announced preparation of an exclusive software to upgrade the administration of temples through Enterprise Resource Planning.
