Ayudha Pooja falls to be on the ninth day of Durga Pooja. As Chamundeswari slayed Mahishasura and other demons, there was no need for using other weapons at all. Hence, all the weapons were collectively placed and worshipped. It is this Pooja that is being celebrated as Ayudha Pooja now.

On the other hand, Ayudha Pooja might be having its specialty because Arjuna found the hidden weapons behind Vani tree and took them back.  He wanted to live his life in disguise during his period of exile. It is most commonly believed that those who start their learning on this auspicious day of Vijayadasmi can be successful just like Arjuna in Kurukshetra war.

During Ayudha Pooja, we worship all the implements we use in our livelihood. All these are placed on the altar and worshipped before the lord on the preceding evening. If a person takes his genuine efforts to discover the divinity in these tools, he or she can make use of their work as a lifetime offering to the lord. Further, one can also keep remembering the divine throughout. There prevails a practice in India where devotees prostrate before these tools to extend their gratitude to the lord for helping one to carry out their duties.
