With the shortly ensuing festival of Ayudha Poojai, the price of the items related to the special pooja on these festival days - puffed rice (pori), flat rice (aval), groundnuts, and pumpkin are sharply shooting up.
One measure of puffed rice sold at Rs. 8/-. Now, it is sold at Rs.10/- per measure. Nattu sakkarai (rurally grown sugar powder) was sold at Rs. 75/- per kg. Now, the price is Rs. 80/-.
The price of split groundnuts has gone up from Rs. 120/- per kg to Rs. 160/- per kg.
In a similar vein, the prices of fruits have also shot up. Orange is sold at Rs. 80/- per kg from Rs. 50/- per kg. Guava is sold at Rs. 80/- per kg from Rs. 50/-. Kamala orange is sold at Rs. 60/- per kg. Pomegranate is sold at Rs. 200/- per kg.The price of coconut also has gone up.
Koyambdeu traders explained that the price rise will remain high up to Wednesday during the the week of festivals of Ayudha Poojai, Saraswathi Poojai, Vijayadasami, and Mohurrum. They have kept sufficient stock. So, the price rise on this occasion is inevitable.
