The food department has issued orders to all the salesmen of fair price shops to collect the details of the family members in the ration cards before 30th November.

34,686 fair price shops are functioning in Tamil Nadu under Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department. Through these outlets essential commodities are supplied to 2 Crores 3 Lakhs and 386 ration cards.

The ration card now under usage in Tamil Nadu has expired in the year 2009. Hence additional sheets are being pasted and being renewed every year. Now the government will be very soon issuing smart cards in lieu of the obsolete ration cards. The work is going on in rapid pace. In view of the foregoing all the details including Aadhar cards are collected from the ration card holders. Now the Point Of Sale apparatus has been installed in all the fair shops. Family details and Aadhar card details are being linked in this POS machine.

At a time when this work is going on from the 1st of the last month, the food department has issued a circular to the entire district Civil Supplies department. In the circular it has been mentioned: There is a difference in the details of the family members in the POS machines and ration cards. Hence the family members’ details including the number of members should be obtained from the ration card holders. The entire details should be collected by 30th November and sent to the Food Department.
