The Reserve Bank Of India is making all efforts to make availability of Rs 2000 notes in bank ATMs in the next 2 days. Moreover the RBI has urged the public not to hoard Rs 100 notes. After scrapping the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, people are exchanging their void notes in the banks. Because of this, the banks are flooded.

In between, the ATMs were opened 2 days back. It was expected that there will lesser crowds in the banks but the ATMs dispensed only 100 rupee notes. Most of the ATMs did not function because the money was not stocked. Hence there was huge crowd in the banks.

An official of the Chennai RBI has mentioned: There are 9600 public sector, private and cooperative banks in Tamil Nadu. In Chennai alone there are 1500 banks. Similarly there are 6000 ATMs in Tamil Nadu and 1200 ATMs in Chennai.  To fill up these ATMs, there are 275 money treasuries on behalf of the banks. From here the money will be sent to all the ATMs. The Central Government announced that Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes will become void. In view of this Rs 2000 currencies are being dispensed by the banks. The ATMs are not dispensing the 2000 note. ATMs are being recalibrated to handle the new series of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 denomination currency notes. This work will be completed in 2 days. After this all the ATMs will dispense Rs 2000 notes.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appealed to citizens not to go to branches repeatedly and also not to hoard cash.
