The Madhuram Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children (MNC) will be conducting the 5th International Conference and 13th National Workshop on Early Intervention in Mental Retardation and Associated Disabilities from Thursday, 17th November to Saturday 19th November 2016 at Hotel Savera, Mylapore.
The aim of the 3 day event is to bring to the attention of the service providers, educational, training and rehabilitation professionals, the impact of the advances made in the field of services to persons with disabilities in the past decade, covering areas like Research, Programs & Innovations, Interventions, Case studies, etc.
Over two dozen experts in the field of disability, with several years of experience of national and international eminence would be participating in this Conference. Commemorating the canonization of Mother Teresa as Saint Teresa and MNC`s association with Mother Teresa, Madhuram Narayanan Centre is releasing a Special Cover and a Postal Stamp of St. Teresa on Thursday, the 17th November at 6 pm. This would be released by Smt. Radhika Chakravarthy, Post Master General, Chennai City Region and Mr. N Sankar, Chairman, The Sanmar Group would receive the first cover. This event will be followed by the Third Air Vice Marshal V Krishnaswamy Memorial Oration by Dr. Partha Pratim Majumder, Director, National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani (near Kolkata) and Head of the Department of Human Genetics, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
Mr. Md Nasimuddin, IAS, Principal Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, Department of Welfare of Differently Abled Persons would be the Chief Guest for the Inauguration on 17th November morning at 915 am. Mr. S Murugaia, IAS, Commissioner for the Differently Abled, Government of Tamil Nadu would be Chief Guest for the Valedictory function on 19th November evening at 4 pm.
Madhuram Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children (MNC) was established in Chennai on December 1989, to provide Early Intervention services to children in the age group birth to six years with mental retardation through a systematic programme of training. The centre caters to children with developmental delays/ mental retardation with autistic tendencies, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorders (ADHD), microcephaly, hydrocephaly, etc.
The aim of the Centre is to serve as a model Centre for research, training. demonstration and for the implementation of the Early Intervention programme to the identified children, age group 6 years and below. Training at the Centre is based on UPANAYAN. Early Intervention programme developed indigenously by a team of experts. This programme was launched by Mother Teresa, now Saint Teresa.
The Centre in its 25+ years service has along its journey, guided, counselled and trained over 5600 children.
