Before reading further, please take a look at the IMD definition of intensity rainfall. This is the 1st low pressure in this NEM moving towards Tamil Nadu coast. The previous two went away from our coast and then came dry days. The present low pressure in Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into Depression today and is also likely to intensify further into Deep Depression by 30th or atleast by December 1st morning and cross Tamil Nadu Coast between Nagapattinam and Chennai on 1st/2nd December. Mostly around cuddalore belt. Some gusty winds of 50-60 km/hr can be expected at that time.

December 1st - Coastal regions to see rains

How natures remembers the most dreadful day in Chennai`s history only God knows. One thing that i know for sure is that, the wont be any floods from this spell on December 1st. However on December 1st, the coast from Chennai to Nagapattinam will witness heavy rainfall. the region around Cuddalore - Pondy can experience very heavy rainfall. Delta will get rain too.

On December 2nd, the interior Tamil Nadu regions / distrirct in central and nowill get moderate rainfal. On 2nd and 3rd, the areas in Coimbatore and Nilgiris such as Coonoor needs to be watched for heavy rainfall as the system moves into Arabian Sea.

Chennai Update - Ignore the rumours

Heavy rains on December 1st (not flooding type) and on 2nd and 3rd there the rains will reduce and it will be isolated spells. Ignore the rumours requesting people to stock up food as there is going to be heavy rainfall for 5 straight days. Stop spreading it. This spell of rains must be welcomed with both hands.
