Cyclone warning signal hoisted at port

Low-pressure area over the south-east Bay of Bengal intensified on Tuesday, and was set to gain strength during the night to grow into a depression. In view of this The Port Department on Monday hoisted the flag denoting a signal 1 cyclone warning, indicating a squally weather formation that could produce a storm in the next 24 hours. 

The depression which is moving towards Chennai is likely to cross Vedaranyam (in Nagapattinam district) on 2nd 0r 3rd December. Cyclone warning signal hoisted at Puducherry, Karaikal, Cuddalore, Nagai and Thoothukudi ports. Fishermen are advised not to venture into seas off Tamil Nadu for the next two days as heavy rains at isolated places expected in these areas
