One a very popular park and another a famous zoo, they will be closed for more than one week as more than 2,000 trees have been uprooted after Vardah cyclone devastated Chennai on December 12.
Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur and childrens park in Guindy will be shut down for more than a week.
Trees have blocked the access points. We need atleast one week to clear the trees. The parks will remain closed for at least a week, said Principal chief conservator of forests and head of forest department N Krishnakumar after visiting the parks here yesterday.
The department is buying five power saws run by petrol, 30 hand saws, 100 sabers and torch lights to do the job fast. It has formed special teams and has also requested forest divisions across the state for power saws.
No animal enclosure was damaged and the animals were not injured, he added.
