The Reserve Bank of India has stated that new Rs 500 notes with Mahatma Gandhi series that will have new E letter inserted in the number panels will be released soon. At the back side of the note, Swachh Bharat logo will be printed.
A few captioned banknotes will have the star character in addition in the number panel between prefix and the number. A packet of these notes will be of 100 pieces but these will not be according to serial order.
For identifying the presence of notes with star symbol, a clear indication of these on the notes will be made on the bands of such packets.
This is for the first time that such star banknotes of Rs 500 denomination are getting issued. To note, banknotes of denominations Rs 10, 20, 50 and 100 have already started being in circulation. At the time of packing, if banknotes with defect are detected during the printing stage, those notes are replaced with other notes carrying the same number so that there is no change with the sequence of the packet.
