In its announcement made on Monday, the Reserve Bank of India has stated that Rs 50 bank notes of Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 will be released shortly. One of these will contain the letter ‘L’ and the other will have the letter ‘R. At the same time, Rs 50 notes will remain legal.
The reverse of the note will have 2016 printed on it and will bear the signature of RBI governor, Dr. Urjit R. Patel. In the number panels, numerals will be ordered in ascending size. These will be similar to that of earlier Rs 50 banknotes of Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005.
This decision about release has come after the RBI announcement that new Rs 100 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi series-2005 will be released without inset letter in either of the numbering panels.
In addition, currency notes of Rs 20 and Rs 50 denomination will also be released very soon, and these will have numerals in ascending size at the number panels without any intaglio printing.
