Posted on: 24/Dec/2016 4:41:44 PM
Its been a while since last update. Hope everyone is doing great and to be honest nothing significant in weather front except the cold wave. Chennai outkirts like Avadi, madhavaram are getting cold mornings close to 17 C while in Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thiruvannamalai are getting cold nights in the range of 13-15 C. So tonight, the temperature might continue to remain the same, so better go prepared for Church for early morning mass.

Next spell of rains for Tamil Nadu? Trough of Low is expected to move towards TN coast in next 2-3 days
--------------------------------------
One more trough of low to give rains to Delta region and Gulf of Mannar from 26-30 and there is good possibility of moderate rains in the places close to coast and isolated heavy rains are also possible. The trough of low may intensify into Low Pressure area and go below Sri Lanka to Comorin Sea and Equator. Even Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli district may some rains.

As far as Chennai, it may get some isolated rains between 26th night till 28th, but not a confirmed one though.

North East Monsoon to spill over to January
--------------------------------------------------
Monsoon will spill over into January and southern, GoM and Delta regions may get rains in January. If lucky, Chennai will get rains and a historic January

No matter what, we are heading towards historic drought this year. This is the worst rainfall for Tamil Nadu in so many years and in the case of Chennai, the worst since last drought year of 2003.

This will be the last update for the year !!!! Chennai had wettest may due to Cyclone Roanu and then wettest spetember, but one of the worst October and November. In december, we can never forget the fury of Very Severe Cyclone Vardah, which are going to be in our memory for lifetime. Overall, very very bad year in farmers prespective. A twin failure of SWM and NEM. I cant even remember such a less rainfall in delta belt.
