Tomatoes prices come down drastically in Chennai

The prices of tomatoes are coming down drastically. Last week 1 kg tomatoes were sold for Rs 30 at Koyambedu wholesale market. After this prices have started coming down. Now 1 kg of tomatoes are being sold for Rs 6. The reason for this is that large numbers of tomatoes are being supplied to Koyambedu market from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Vegetable Market Association advisor V R Soundararajan while speaking about this said: There is more supply of tomatoes to Koyambedu since there is heavy harvest of tomatoes in Madanapalle and Punganur of Andhra Pradesh. Last week tomatoes were supplied to Koyambedu market in 60 lorries from Andhra, Karnataka and Krishnagiri. Now the tomatoes are being supplied in 75 lorries. Since the tomatoes are sold for Rs 6 in Koyambedu, the retail dealers are selling for Rs 10 per kilo of tomatoes.
