Dr. S R Ramanan, Retired Director (Sc. `E`) Area Cyclone Warning Centre Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai after attending a function in Salem spoke to the media. He said: Some changes have to take place in the weather for the rains to come. In the present year, no such changes took place.
Last year during the northeast monsoon season, there was 44 percent rainfall. But this year during the last 3 months, only 16 cm rainfall was recorded. Last year, there were so many factors to increase the temperature in the sea but there were rains because of the strong winds.
In the current year there are situations for the temperature to rise in the Andaman Sea but there are no rains because there was no speed in the winds. There has been global warming for the last 20 years. The reason for this is trees and paddy fields are destroyed in the villages and converted into cities. Farmers must be prepared to produce crops according to the season. Only when the clouds in the sky are together we can create artificial by sprinkling chemical products. Now there are no chances for this.
