Chennai Police brings in unprecedented regulations for this New Year Celebrations

The Chennai Police have ordered unprecedented regulations for the coming New Year celebrations for the star hotels, clubs, hotels (food), and entertainment places.

The Chennai Police has asked the star hotels, clubs and food shops to strictly follow the regulations as given below:

Star Hotels and Entertainment Centres
  • Special licence will be given to those who apply celebrating the New Year in open public spaces. The licence would be valid from 6.00 PM on 31st December till 1.00AM on the New Year. The star hotels, entertainment centres, and the food shops must stop serving food or selling alcoholic beverages by 1.00 AM.
  • The vehicles arriving at star hotels and entertainment centres for the New Year celebrations must be checked properly and thoroughly. All entrances must be installed with CCTV cameras and the details of the vehicles entering must be registered.
  • Alcoholic beverages must not be served in other places except where the licence is given.
  • No temporary stages can be set up near or over the swimming pools.
  • In case temporary stages are set up for some entertainment programmes, a certificate must be obtained from the concerned authorities regarding the stability and withstanding the strength of the temporary stage erected.
  • All swimming pools must be kept closed from 6.00 PM on 31st December till the morning of the New Year on 1.1.2017.
  • The Hotel Administration should check and record all details of foreigners participating in the New Year Celebrations.
  • In the Ballrooms where celebrations are organised, sufficient security staff should be kept in order to avoid untoward incidents such as eve-teasing. The security staff must monitor closely.
  • Entrance barriers must be put up in the paths leading to the swimming people and security must be posted.
  • The administrators should not allow more than the number of guests as given in the licence.
  • Drunken driving must be avoided. The administrators should make arrangements for additional transport for the guests who have taken alcoholic beverages.
  • Misbehaviour in the drunken condition should be noticed and the concerned persons must be immediately removed from that place.
  • Sufficient precautionary measures must be undertaken to ensure the celebrations are organised with grace and dignity.
  • Strict legal action will be taken against the administrations who fail to follow the above regulations.
The Public
  • Strict and immediate legal action will be taken on cases of drunken driving. The vehicles will be confiscated.
  • A Speed limit is enforced on all 2-wheelers and also there is a ban on more than 2 persons on the 2-wheelers. Legal action will be taken if this is not followed.
  • In order to keep the dignity and respect for the other guests, the participants should not indulge in untoward incidents.
  • The gathering celebrating the New Year should not enter the beach or the coast part.
  • In the case of the drivers who tend to perform som stunts on the 2-wheeler, the vehicle will be confiscated and strict action will be taken.
  • In the pretext of offering New Year Greetings, persons should not indulge in passing crude and sarcastic remarks on the women. Strict action will be taken on those who do.
  • Crackers should not be burnt in the places s where public gathers.
  • Action will be taken on those who indulge in unseemly teasing and sarcastic remarks.
  • Coloured water must not be sprayed on others.
  • Strict action will be taken on those who drive the 2-wheelers or 4-wheelers at excessive speeds.
  • The public should avoid playing on the beach or taking boat rides to the sea.
The Police Department has requested complete and full cooperation from the Chennai Metro city public to enable smooth, happy, and grand New Year Celebrations by strictly following the above regulations.
