Tips to follow your New Year goals throughout

Posted on: 01/Jan/2017 11:31:45 AM
Most of us set our New Year goals, but fail to keep them up. Here are a few easy ways in which you can stay controlled and remain glued to your goals

Have specific goals
Usually, people are generic with their goals. They say they are to get in shape. What does that actually mean? Is that about attaining a certain weight or percentage of body fat? Is that about running or jogging a distance without rest? Or are you set to do three sets of pull-ups a day? According to experts, making measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound, smart goals is important.

Keep track of progress
You will be able to change your progress if you measure it. This is the basic of psychology. The progress measured will in turn motivate you and let you know your own stand. This will also help you realize when you are slipping back or hitting a height. With this, you can alter your efforts accordingly.

Patience is a must
Progress is rarely linear. A few of us experience gain faster and experience resistance during later days. On the other hand, few others may experience a painful start, but they can see a sudden, fast breakthrough, thus making long-lasting changes.

Proclaim your goals with friends and family
You definitely need social support. You need to have personal courage to announce your goals that you may actually slip from. However, to see multitudinous success, you certainly need support from others around you.

Getting an accountability partner is ideal. He or she should check with you every day or every week. You can very easily break promises or goals to yourself, but you cannot do the same to friends or partners.

Schedule your goals
I do not find time to do it – this is perhaps a most common statement you utter. The hard-hitting truth is we do not find time, we choose time. It depends on our choice to spend time – the time to spend towards eating a calorie-rich food or make a daily workout. Prioritize your goals and schedule them properly. Say for example, you have fitness goals, there should be recurring time blocks to perform your daily workouts.

Getting some result is better than getting at all
Are you guilty of doing nothing or pressurizing to do everything? Out of temptation, I may eat a lot of those freshly made French fries and get reminded of the diet and plan restarting the work next week. There is definitely a difference of doing nothing than doing something. Instead of doing a complete workout at the gym for a full hour, deciding at least to make 20 minutes of workout can help you achieve what you want to. If you find it tough to hit the gym for the 20 minutes treadmill workout, try lacing up your sneakers and work out on a 5 minutes run. Always remember that taking any effort towards your goal is always far better than taking no effort at all.

With that said, LiveChennai wishes you all a very Happy New year.
