Chennai Metro rail scheme will function in two corridors. It comprises two corridors- corridor 1 from Washermanpet to Airport and corridor 2 from Central to St Thomas Mount.
Currently metro rail is being operated on the elevated path between Koyambedu and St Thomas Mount. Apart from this there is also metro rail services between Little Mount and Airport.
Since the metro rail between Central and Koyambedu will be operated in the underground path, the tunneling works are going on in various places. In the underground passage between Nehru Park and Koyambedu, lying of railway tracks and building of stations are taking place in rapid pace.
The officials are confident that these paths will be ready for operations during the month of March or April as planned earlier. All the work connected with these stations are in the final stages.
It is expected that the rail services between Chennai Central and Airport will commence during the month of November. Chennai Metro Rail has decided to begin the commercial operation in this 22kms path by end of this year.
