The 40th Chennai book fair organized by Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India came to an end yesterday. 12 Lakhs people have visited this book fair and books worth Rs 15 Crores were sold. Every year the Chennai Book Fair is being organized by Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India during the month of January. Last year the book fair was held during the month of June due to heavy floods and rains during the month of December.
As usual, this year on the occasion of Pongal, the 40th Chennai book fair was organized between 6th January and 19th January at St George Anglo Indian High School which is opposite to Pachaiyappas College. There were 700 stalls.
10 Lakhs books were on display. Out of which 350 were Tamil Publications, 153 English Publications and 2 Malayalam Publications.
Due to financial crunch, it was estimated that many of the visitors would be using debit and credit cards. In view of this, the organizers with the aid of City Union Bank had installed 50 swiping machines. The entry fee was Rs 10 and Rs 50. The season tickets were sold for Rs 100.
Every day in the evenings, there were book releases, discourses and award functions. This book fair came to an end yesterday. On the last day, awards were given to the publishers who were in the service for the last 25 years.
