Legislative Assembly to meet this evening to pass the Emergency Ordinance on Jallikattu

A special session is being organised for the Legislative Assembly members to meet this evening (Monday, 23rd January). This session is intended to pass the Emergency Ordinance proposed regarding  conducting Jallikattu again.

The speaker of the Legislative Assembly Mr Dhanapal explained that the session would commence with a condolence observed for the departed leaders like former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, K C Mani, etc. and a condolence resolution passed.After this, the assembly will be adjourned.

On 27th, 30th, and 31st January, the vote of thanks will be passed on the governor’s address and discussions will be held. On 1st February, the Chief Minister will address the Legislative Assembly commencing with the note of thanks for the Governor’s address. The assembly session will close on the same day.

The speaker also informed that the Legislative Assembly is scheduled to meet this evening (Monday, 23rd January). Generally, as per the routine, the assembly will be adjourned after the governor’s address. However, with the intense Jallikattu protest prevailing, a special session is requested to be arranged by the Legislative Assembly Analysis Team.

Amendments will be made on the existing Prevention of cruelty to Animals Act and also pass the recent Emergency Ordinance to allow resumption of jallikattu in the state of Tamil Nadu.
