The Jallikattu emergency ordinance was passed as an ACT unanimously in the Tamil Nadu legislative Assembly today (Monday, 23rd January).
As per the Supreme Courier banning Jallikattu, it was not conducted over the past 2 years. In this background, the entire youth in Tamil Nadu as a force and conducted a self-initiated protest throughout Tamil Nadu.
Following this, an emergency ordinance was passed by the state government of Tamil Nadu to amend the prevention of cruelty to animals Act. This removed the ban on conducting Jallikattu.
The Chief Minister O Panneerselavam proposed to pass this ordinance in a special session convened by the Tamil Nadu legislative Assembly. After discussions, the proposal was passed unanimously.
Once this is approved by the Governor and the President, this amendment will be passed as a Law in the amended Act.
