Metro Rail between Koyambedu and Nehru Park

Presently, Metro Rail Services are operated between Airport-Chinnamalai and Koyambedu-ST Thomas Mount-Koyambedu.

In the next stage, test runs are being conducted over the last few months in the section between Koyambedu and Nehru Park covering distance of 8 km in the tunnel track.

The tunnel track has been laid at 10 to 20 metre depth and has a width of 6 metres and the metro rail will run on this. The operation will cover the stations Koyambedu, Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar Tower, Shenoy Nagar, Pachaiyappa’s College, Kilpauk, and Nehru Park in the 1st phase.

The Metro Rail officials explained in this regard that there are features introduced in the metro rail travel between Koyambedu and Nehru Park. The train as well as the railway stations are airconditioned. Though the station interiors have fans and tube lights installed, the facility to have sunlight inside the station has been provided.

The officials informed that they are ready to operate. The Railway Safety Commission team will visit and conduct inspection before approving to commence operations. After the inspection, permission from the state of government of Tamil Nadu will be obtained and it is expected that the operation in the section for the public will commence in April.
