For all e-tickets booked via
irctc.co.in, there will be no service tax, as the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is withdrawn. The finance minister made the announcement while representing the Union Budget in parliament for 2017-18. At present, Rs 20 is imposed as service tax on Sleeper and the same for AC class ticket is Rs 40 while making online ticket booking. This amount had been non-refundable if cancelled.
In November 2016, after announcement about demonetization, the service tax towards ticket booking through IRCTC was waived off until end of the year so as to encourage cashless transactions.
Ever since the inception of IRCTC site in 2002, the capacity of ticket booking is continuously increased until 13 lakh now. Within one minute, over 15,000 tickets can be booked using 3 lakh concurrent logins. In the IRCTC site, about 18.3 crore tickets were booked between 2014-15.
