Their important food is wheat. In the recent times foods like chapathis and rotis have become popular in Tamil Nadu. There is a great demand for these foods in the restaurants.

In this situation, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to bring slight change in the food culture of Tamil Nadu. It is understood that the government will be giving importance to rice and at the same time promote wheat.

When asked a government official regarding this, he said: Government is considering bringing wheat as an option.  For example, if a consumer buys 20 kgs of rice he will be given 15kgs of rice and 5 kg of wheat as per his wish. This will be free of cost.
