While the Facebook app is unanimously used by smartphone users, the lighter version of the same app called the Facebook Lite is also broadly in use. This is a data friendly version and has got more than 200 million users every month. It was in 2015 that the app was launched intended to help users from developing nations like India where internet connectivity is intermittent.
The regular Facebook app has 1.18 billion daily users. This does not only consume more data but also gulps down the battery faster. Considering the past two years, there is substantial growth in internet speed in India, however patchy connectivity prevails in areas with high tele-density.
Initially, the difference between the two apps were unclear, however after introducing many features to Facebook Lite, people have started liking it in multiple ways. The video streaming options are far better and almost the same as streaming on regular app. With the Lite app, user can know the data consumption that a video streaming would consume.
There is also built in chat options which is absent with regular Facebook app where separate Messenger app is required which further uses 150 MB of your storage memory.
