2 TMC of Krishna River Water for Poondi Reservoir so far

The PWD (Public Works Department) officials informed that until now, 2 TMC of Krishna river water has been directed to the Poondi Reservoir.

The total capacity of the 4 major reservoirs supplying metro water to the city - Puzhal, Poondi, Chembarambakkam, and Cholavaram - is 11 TMC.

As on Sunday, there was only 1.6 TMC of water in these 4 reservoirs.The 5th Reservoir, the Veeranam lake has already dried up.

In this scenario, according to the Krishna water sharing pact, water from Krishna River was opened from the Kandaleru Dam in Andhra State to the Poondi reservoir from 21st January.

Currently, 1800 cft of water is being released from Kandaleru dam. As on Sunday (19th February), water flow into the Poondi reservoir is at 481 cft per second. The level of the lake as on this date is 24.94’.Presently, the lake has 897 million cft of water.

The PWD officials informed that from 21st January till Sunday, 1.91 TMC of Krishna river water has reached the Poondi reservoir.
