Have you got any plan to visit the Vandalur Zoo anytime now? If yes, you will have to be prepared to shell out more for entry ticket than you did earlier.

The ticket prices are nearly doubled at Arignar Anna Zoological Park. While an adult ticket has been priced Rs.30, it is now increased to Rs.50 and that of children is also doubled to Rs.20. Zoo rounds that were priced Rs.30 are now priced Rs.100 for adults and Rs.50 for children; this is five times than of earlier rate. For adults, lion safari is priced Rs. 50 and for children, it is Rs.30. Earlier, the corresponding prices were Rs.30 and Rs.10.

Speaking about this, the Zoo director and additional principal chief conservator of forests, Amit Asthana said there is increase in cost of feed and other necessary items for animals maintained here and hence is the revision in rates. A major portion of the zoo revenue is allotted for animal feeds. A kilo of groundnut was Rs.45 5 years ago, and the same is now sold for Rs.100. Beef that was priced Rs.73.50 per kilo in 2012 is now sold for Rs.170. Similarly, fish and chicken rates have doubled too.
