According to latest reports on population of internet users in India, there will be 450 to 465 million internet users by June this year. Notably, the same was 432 million in December 2016.
IAMAI-IMRB report said that 269 million out of the total 432 million users is from urban areas in India. As a clear indication of saturation level of internet users in urban India, there is 60 percent internet penetration in these regions. In the rural areas, there is 17 percent penetration and there is high scope of development here as well.
While the urban regions are levelling out internet usage, the rural areas largely fuel upsurge in internet usage. In the rural India, there are 750 million users. About 51 percent of urban India internet users make use of the internet almost every day. and 90 percent or 242 million internet users from urban India make use of internet just once in a month.
There are 78 million equivalent to 48 percent of rural India internet users accessing the web every day. And about 140 million equivalent to 83 percent of users make use of internet for once in a month.
Lack of internet usage in non-internet users is due to lack of awareness about the usage benefit. Lack of computer knowledge is additional reason.
