Unprecedented steep rise in the price of LPG Cooking gas cylinder

Reeling under the impact of the prevailing in the international trading market, the price of the non-subsidised LPG cooking gas cylinder has gone up by Rs. 86/- per cylinder. Incidentally, this is the highest price increase in Indian History.

Let us know what is non-subsidised LPG cooking gas (cylinder). Presently, the central government does not pay any subsidy to the gas agencies and pays a subsidy to the public.

The equivalent of this subsidy amount is charged to those who have declared that they do not need subsidy and those consumers who have bought more than 12 numbers of the 14.2 kg cylinder in a year.

Before this steep price rise, the price of the 14.2 kg LPG cooking cylinder was Rs. 651.50.

Earlier, the central government had increased the price of the 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder by Rs. 66.50 on 1st February. This was a shock to the public.

There has been a trend of continuous price increase of LPG gas right from October 2016. In Delhi, the price of the non-subsidised gas cylinder was Rs. 466.50 in September 2016. Now, this has increased by Rs. 271.

The central government has increased the subsidy levels to the gas suppliers by 13.

In India, the companies which deal with sales of petrol and diesel do the selling of LPG cooking gas as well.

During the financial year 2016 alone, the price of the LPG cooking gas cylinder has been increased 8 times. As a result, the public are put to great hardships. Some of the consumers have also complained that the subsidies do not get deposited in their bank savings accounts.

The central government had increased the price of the aviation fuel also by Rs. 214 and is now charging Rs. 54293.38 per kilo-litre. As per this, the price increase amounts to 3 percent.

Normally, the oil companies announce the revision in prices on the 1st day of every month according to the domestic and international stock trading.
