What are the Laws of the constitution pertaining to Women?

On today’s special occasion of the celebration of Women’s Day, it is definitely worthwhile knowing the Laws pertaining to women.

Here is a chronological list of the various laws enacted pertaining to the women:

1925 – Under the India Inheritance Law, property rights were accorded to wives and daughters.

1929 – Child Marriage Prevention Law was enacted.

1955 – As per the wedding law, the marriage age of the girls was fixed at 17 and later (presently), it has been revised as 21.

1956 – Inheritance Law – The daughters in the family are given rights to the property of the parents.

1956 – Windows remarriage Act – The act approving the remarriage of widows was passed.

1961 – Child-birth welfare Law – these facilitated women to take leave during the delivery period with wages.

1961 – Dowry Prevention Act – The act giving jail sentence for those who ask and get dowry was enacted. It was revised in 1984.

1986 – Act preventing women shown in an obscene manner

1989 – Inheritance Law – Equal share of ancestral/parental properties for women

1990 – Women’s National Law

1994 – Act regarding the gender identification of the child in the womb and prevention of female child infant foeticide

2005 – Protection for women from family violence

2013 – Prevention of sexual harassment of women in the workplace
