The initial activities laying the foundation and erecting pillars for the high-level over-bridge construction project in Vandalur has commenced,
The Central government decided to construct a 5-way high-level over-bridge at the Vandalur junction National Highway in order to reduce the heavy traffic congestion experienced over the last several years. Funds for Rs. 55 Crores were allotted for this project. The soil testing before construction was in progress.
In this situation, one of the main activities of erecting concrete pillars commenced a few days back.
The Highway officials explained in this regard that the over-bridge construction work in the Vandalur-Kenambakkam Junction at a cost of Rs. 55 Crores have commenced. It will be a 5-way highway. The length of the overbridge is 700 metres and the width is 24 metres. 9 Pillars will be constructed in the centre of the road. Currently, 5 pillars are being erected.
The over-bridge will be ready for public service by the year 2018. As a solution to the heavy traffic congestion, the stretch of the highway section from Vandalur Junction to Urappakkam is being widened. While this project is progressing, the traffic in this section has been diverted.
