CBSE has announced that the students who would appear in the 10th standard examinations next year will have write examinations on 6 subjects instead of the current system of 5 examinations for 10th standard.
As per the current syllabus for 10th standard, 2 papers on languages, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science are the 5 papers written in the 10th standard examinations. And there was the system of the students making their own choice for an additional subject.
However, now, this optional subject will be made a compulsory subject from the current academic year 2017-18.So, the students will have to learn and prepare, and write the examination on a 6th subject. This has been made as per the National Skills Law.
There are 13 subjects offered for the students to choose their 6th subject. They are:
- Dynamics of retailing
- Information Technology
- Safety
- Automobile technology
- Introduction to financial market
- Introduction to tourism
- The art of beauty
- Basic Management
- Food production
- Office procedures
- Banking and Insurance
- Marketing and Sales
- Healthcare Services
The marks allotted for any of the 6th subject chosen from above is 100.
A circular from CBSE explains that the students who fail in any of the 3 subjects of Mathematics, Science, and Social Science can opt to choose to exchange this failed subject with their chosen 6th subject. Further, the student who failed still has the option to write the compartment test on the failed subject.
Out of the 100 marks mentioned above for the 6th subject, 50 marks are for the written examination. The other 50 marks are for internal assessment and practical.
If the students score 33 percent in the board examination and practical, it will be considered as a pass in that subject.
