As per the announcement made by the government to upgrade the government secondary and higher secondary schools in the next academic year. 825 new teachers are to be appointed as graduate teachers and postgraduate teachers in the government schools.

The budget of the state of Tamil Nadu for the financial year 2017-18 was presented in the Legislative Assembly day-before-yesterday (Thursday, 16th March). It has been announced that 150 secondary schools will be upgraded to high schools and 100 high schools will be upgraded to Higher secondary schools.

When a secondary school is upgraded into a high school, 5 new graduate teachers jobs will be created (Tamil, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science).

Similarly, when a high school is upgraded into a higher secondary school, 9 new postgraduate teachers post (Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, zoology, History, Economics, and Commerce) will be created.

As 150 secondary schools are being upgraded as per the above, 750 graduate teachers will be appointed at 4 teachers per school and as 100 high schools are being upgraded into higher secondary schools, 900 postgraduate teachers will be appointed at 9 teachers per school.

As far as the teachers appointment in government schools are concerned, 50 percent of the vacancies will be filled up through promotions and the balance 50 percent will be as direct appointment (through TET - Teachers Eligibility Test).

So, out of the 750 graduate teachers requirement, 375 appointments will be direct recruitments. Similarly, out of the 900 postgraduate teachers requires, 450 candidates are to be selected by direct appointment.

The above direct appointments for the graduate teachers will be done based on the marks scored in TET and the weightage mark of the candidate. Similarly, the direct appointments for the postgraduate teachers will be done on the basis of the marks obtained in TET.

TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) is scheduled to be conducted on 29th and 30th April.

As per the government order released recently, the arrangements for conducting the TET for graduate and postgraduate teachers are in full swing in the Teachers Recruitment Board.

Now, with the additional requirement due to the upgrading of government schools explained as above, it is expected that these additional requirements are also likely to be filled up through the TET mentioned above.
