The next list of smart cities, a major ambitious and dream project of the central government is set to be released in June.
As per the smart city plan, they will be of international standard on the fronts of technology, infrastructure and other important aspects. The lifestyle of the residents in these smart cities will be on part with international standards.
The special features of a smart city can be listed:
- Pure drinking water
- Undisturbed power supply
- Shining broad roads
- High-speed internet facility
- Automatically operating waste/sewerage disposal system
- Excellent transport connections
- Digitalised public services
- Low-cost houses
The cities throughout India are selected for the smart city project in 2 stages.
In the 1st stage, the state government will prepare the cities in their state and send it to the central government.
In the 2nd stage, the list of cities sent by the state governments will be assessed on their prevailing infrastructure and amenities to participate in the 2nd stage.
For the smart city project, the central government will provide funds of Rs.48000 Crores over a period of 5 years.
Rs.100 Crores per year will be expended on each selected smart city.
The state governments, on their part, will invest an equal amount of development fund.
As per the central government plan, the next list of 100 smart cities will be selected. So far, 60 cities have been selected.
