After close to 40 years of setting up the first dental college in Chennai, now, the state government is gearing up to construct the second one, this time in Virudhunagar - a southern district. While there have been 100 seats with the dental colleges so far, the count is set to double up in state-run colleges and increase up to 200.
Orders to establish the institution was issued by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy on Wednesday. This is done complying with former CM Jayalalitha’s promise in the Assembly on 25th August 2015.
The CM has approved to start construction of buildings and deploy a dean, and the state health department is at the verge of beginning the work.
