Padma Awards distribution function in Rashtrapati Bhavan

The President of India, Pranab Mukherji, awarded the Padma awards (national honours) to 89 persons including Mariyappan (Gold medal in Paralympics). Late Journalist Cho Ramaswamy, and the noted Carnatic and film playback Singer Yesudas.

The central government has instituted Padma Awards of different categories for recognition through National Honours for eminent persons excelling in their field every year. The Padma awards for 2017 were announced in January.

Accordingly, in a special function organised today (Thursday, 13th April) the President Pranab Mukherji awarded the Padma Bhushan to the Founder of Esha Yoa Centre, Jaggi Vasudev.

The Padma Bhushan Award, given to the late popular journalist and film actor, Cho Ramaswamy was received by his wife.

Padma Shri awards were presented to Mariyappan (Gold medal in Paralympics), Deepa Karmakar (4th place in gymnastics in Olympics), Sakshi Malik (Bonze medal in Olympics).

Prime Minister Modi and central ministers participated on this occasion.
