The facility to buy tickets for the travel in Chennai Metro Rail through mobile app will be introduced in the next 2 months.
Chennai Metro Rail Project is in progress in 2 corridors covering a distance of 45 km. Special facilities will be available in metro travel - escalator and lift facility in the stations, air-conditioning in the train, etc.
Presently, the Chennai Metro Rail is operating in 2 sections, Alandur - Chennai Airport and Koyambedu - St.Thomas Mount. Around 12000 passengers travel every day.
In this scenario, the Chennai Metro Rail is set to introduce an app shortly to convey the details of the route, times of arrival/departure, ticket fare, procuring the ticket, making complaints, and recharging of tickets.
The Chennai Metro Rail officials explained that there has been a gradual increase in the number of passengers. On a single day on 14th April, 19000 passengers travelled in the Metro. With the increasing intensity of summer, the public has taken to travelling in air-conditioned trains. This has led to a considerable increase in the number of passengers. It is expected that this will further increase by 10 percent.
Meanwhile, the precursory activities are in full progress on the development of a new app which will provide the details - procuring the ticket, travel time, the nearest bus stand, safety numbers, monthly recharging, paying parking fees, etc.
