NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is scheduled to be conducted on 7th May, Sunday. NEET must be written by the students seeking admission to medical courses (MBBS or BDS) in universities or colleges all over India.
80000 students from Tamil Nadu are writing NEET.
As per the Supreme Court order, a pass in the NEET is compulsory to join the medical courses. Accordingly, NEET has become compulsory from this academic year.
The state government of Tamil Nadu attempted to get an exemption from this order by passing a petition in the Legislative Assembly and sending it to the President approval - however, it was not approved.
NEET is conducted in 103 cities all over the country. Special centres have been set up. In Tamil Nadu, NEET is conducted in Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Namakkal, and Vellore.
Totally 11 Lakh students are writing NEET, including 80000 from Tamil Nadu. Out of this 80000, 50000 students have studied in the Samacheer Kalvi Thittam.
