The Chennai Metro Rail project officials have planned to commence the services between the section Thirumangalam and Nehru Park (Underground) from the next week.
The officials explained that during the last thorough inspection, different aspects such as the strength of the railway tracks, signals functioning, communication equipment, functioning, firefighting equipment operation, and other security aspects provided for the passengers in the stations as well as inside the train.
The safety commission conducted the test by operating the train at 80 kmph in the tunnel route.
The safety commissioner had recommended certain changes to be carried out regarding the safety aspects. These have been carried out.
The approval has been obtained recently to operate metro rail between the underground section Thirumangalam-Nehru park of 7.6 km distance.
The officials informed that they plan to commence public service in this section after the approval of central and state governments. The exact date of start cannot be told now. The state government only has to decide about this.
