Merit list for admission to postgraduate medical courses released

There are 21 government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. Out of the total seats available in these 21 government medical colleges, there is a 50 percent quota reserved for All India admission. After taking this into account, there are 562 seats available for the postgraduate courses (M.D. and M.S.) and 200 seats for postgraduate diploma courses.

The Tamil Nadu Government Dental College in Chennai has 19 seats (after counting the 50 percent quota for All India admission) for the postgraduate course in dentistry (M.D.S.).

In this scenario, the first phase of counselling for the admission to postgraduate medical courses for the academic year 2017-18 as per the Supreme Court order considering the performance in NEET. The 1st phase of counselling was conducted from 8th May to 11th May.

During this 1st Phase counselling, 722 seats for the medical postgraduate and diploma courses and 17 seats for the postgraduate courses in dentistry were filled up.

At the end of the counselling, 40 seats for the post graduation medical courses and diploma courses and 2 seats for the postgraduation courses in dentistry are vacant.

The 2nd phase counselling for admission to postgraduate medical courses is scheduled for next week. 42 seats vacant in the government medical colleges, the administration quota, and the state government quota in the private medical and dentistry postgraduation colleges and the vacant seats in deemed universities are to be filled up during the 2nd phase counselling.

As per the merit list released by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), there are 2680 candidates (Taking into account the administration quota in the private medical colleges). As per the merit list released by the deemed universities, there are 4107 candidates.
