The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment states that 1.67 percent of India’s population aging between 1 and 19 has any sort of disability. About 12 million children with disabilities in our country and 35.39 percent people with disabilities are children.
It is because of this that we cannot stress on the importance of schools for children having special needs. The learning abilities children suffer with includes hyperactivity, cognitive disabilities and attention deficit disorder.
Extra Measures for Special needs School in Chennai:
A lot of efforts are invested in comforting such children in normal schools without the need for any
Special Education Center in Chennai. According to the Disability Act 1995, there is guaranteed education to all kinds of children with disabilities until their age of 18. Free transportation, free uniform, free books and learning materials and scholarships, etc are some of the facilities offered.
Children with special needs have special schools like
Occupational Therapy Centre in Chennai. A disability certificate is required for admitting children with disability to get admitted in schools. One can obtain the certificate at the Office of the Commissioner for Disabilities. Government hospitals cannot help you with it.
Special Schools for special children:
India has got a number of special schools for such children with disabilities. While many of them are run by NGOs and private parties, there are government aided ones as well. Chaitanya therapy is one of such schools in India where occupational therapy, Handwriting Improvement Classes in Chennai, and many more are offered.
Children should enjoy the same right to education whether or not they have disabilities. There should be no sort of discrimination. The education system should meet the needs of all kinds of kids and prevent them from getting isolated or excluded in any kind.
According to the UNESCO Salamanca Statement and Framework of Action 1994, in its note about Special Needs Education, the most effective way of combating such discrimination is to have regular schools incorporating inclusive orientation. This will cause welcoming communities and construct an inclusive community.
Chaitanya therapy is one such centre offering special needs education including education, handwriting practice, occupational therapy, etc. In fact, there are special admissions given to children with such disabilities.
This is however easily said than actually performed. A mother of a young man with such disabilities had filed a case in 2006 with the Bombay High Court when he did not get any concession in spite of being eligible, and also did they detain him in class 7.
In an interview given during the problem, the parent said teachers do not have any awareness about such learning disabilities. The teachers claimed that the student was given extra time, but still could not perform well in exams. There is not much change i imposed since then.
