The Supreme Court has placed an interim ban order on the central government move to link PAN card with Aadhar number.
This interim ban will continue until the National Constitution bench decides about it.
The central government had announced earlier that it is important to have Aadhar card to pay Income Tax and file returns and the PAN card must be linked to the Aadhar card before 30th June.
A public petition was submitted to the Supreme Court against this announcement.
This petition came up for enquiry on 4th May. The bench of judges A. K. Sikri and Ashok Bhushan conducted the enquiry. They had indicated that the verdict would be announced today (Friday, 9th June).
Accordingly, the case was taken up again and the Supreme Court has placed an interim ban on the proposal to link PAN card with Aadhar card.
