Plans to set up 5000 MW solar power plants to overcome power shortage

The energy sector has planned to set up solar energy power plants for 5000 MW in the next 5 years in order to meet the power shortage.

A higher official from the Department of the energy sector informed that a target has been set to generate 5000 MW of solar power by the year 2025. The various activities involved for this purpose, such as fixing solar panels on the rooftops of government buildings, offering a subsidised scheme for houses for installing solar panels, etc., are being implemented.

In Tamil Nadu, according to the above plan, the headquarters of TANGEDCO, Aavin refrigeration centres for milk, 12 famous temples, and several local administration offices have all been provided with solar power facilities.

Further, all activities relating to the setting up solar energy plants are being expedited. A target has been set to generate 5000 MW of solar power.

Solar rooftop panels are to be installed in the revenue department offices, local administration offices, and other government offices. It is planned that this activity will continue and more solar energy equipment will be set up in various establishments gradually to realise 5000 MW solar power generation in the next 5 years.
