This year, the popular festival of Deepavali falls on 18th October. As a trend, the people book their tickets early to visit their native places to celebrate Deepavali. This year, they have started booking right from 15th June.
The train ticket booking for travelling on 16th October started at 8.00 AM. There were large gatherings of people in the booking centres.
Within 7 to 10 minutes after the booking commenced, the reservations for all the import express trains for the Southern districts got filled up.
The booking for express trains - Kanyakumari, Muthunagar, Thiruchendur, Ananthapuri, Nellai, Podhigai – got filled. The waiting list touched 100.
At the same time, plenty of seats were available for trains such as Vaigai and Tuticorin Link Express where only seats are provided. There were plenty of tickets available for Guruvayur Express also.
Most people book train tickets online. So, the people who visited the booking counters and waited for long hours had to return disappointed as most reservations were filled through online booking.
Train booking can be done today (Monday, 19th June) for those plan to travel on 17th October and on tomorrow (Tuesday, 20th June) for those who plan to travel on 18th October.
The Southern Railway officials explained that the reservations for most express trains to Southern districts for travelling on 16th October got filled. The speed of the online booking facility has been increased to facilitate faster booking.
A high-level official meeting is scheduled to be conducted in 2 days in order to decide about the running of special trains and linking of additional coaches giving due consideration to the prevalent demand from the passengers.
