Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, E. Palanisamy, inaugurated the Porur flyover which was in construction over the last 7 years. It has now become open to the public. The flyover bears the name of MGR.
Around 118015 vehicles pass the junction point of Porur Roundtana linking the St. Thomas Mount - Poonamallee High Road and Arcot Road. There is heavy traffic congestion throughout the day. The state government decided to construct an flyover to ease the acute traffic congestion.
Accordingly, the construction activities were taken up to build a 4-lane flyover 505 metres long and 17.20 metres wide.
The authorities undertook inspection and testing of the flyover on 22nd June. They confirmed that the flyover was fit for use. The government announced the inauguration on 25th June. The flyover is named as Bharat Ratna Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Flyover.
Subsequently, the flyover was inaugurated yesterday (Sunday, 25th June). He flagged off the first few vehicles.
