Companies can take time up to 30th September for clearing their unsold pre-GST goods, with the government’s approval to reflect the printed sale price and revised MRP after the new tax regime gets kicked-in.

To reduce MRP, it may be that a sticker containing lower MRP can be affixed. This will not have any sort of MRP declaration by the manufacturer or label packer.

Amidst these, Mr Paswan has requested the manufacturers to transfer the GST benefits to customers and alerted that legal actions be taken against shopkeepers who do not indicate about revised MRP after GST.

After bringing GST into effect, a few items have gone up in price while other prices have come down in rate.

The customers should attain the reduction in price by tax reduction caused due to GST. There is relaxation till 30th September as per Packaged Commodities Rule that mandates writing the new MRP on items with reduced rate due to GST.

On items that have seen increase in price due to GST, the new MRP should be mandatorily mentioned. This will make the consumers aware of the GST impact. All the shopkeepers who do not mention the revised MRP shall be liable to legal actions, Paswan added.
