As a move to facilitate easier and quicker ticket booking and reduce the pressure on ticket examiners and collectors, the Railways is following the footsteps of Metro in installing automatic flap gates along with bar code scanners at all stations.

To start with, all the non-metropolitan stations will get access control systems that are already functional in Kolkata and Delhi Metro services. Here, the traffic is comparatively lesser.

The software arm of the Railways called the CRIS is making these new flap gate systems functional at Brar Square station at the Delhi Division as a pilot project.

In the next 3 months, the access control system shall be functional, said an official from the Railway Ministry who’s involved in the project.

Once the system is up and running and successful, dealing with train ticket shortage will be easier for examiners and ticket collectors.

As per the system design, the unreserved tickets shall have encrypted QR code for select stations where the passengers will have to get in or get out via these gates after ticket validation.

During rush hour, it will be possible for the automatic flap gate system to handle quick passenger entry and exit using this system.

Besides installing automatic gates, there will be counters at the Brar Square station to provide QR-coded tickets to passengers for entry or exit.
